Letter to International Maritime Community on the safety and security risks caused by GNSS interference
On 26 January 2026, Iceland and 13 other European countries published a letter to the International Maritime Community on the safety and security risks caused by Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) interference.
The joint letter notes the risks to maritime safety and security caused by interference with satellite navigation systems, i.e. GNSS interference, and highlights the obligations of vessels and flag states under international treaties.
The signatories of the letter include the coastal states of the Baltic Sea and the North Sea: Belgium, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Sweden and the United Kingdom as well as Iceland.
On behalf of Iceland, the letter was signed by the Minister of Infrastructure.
