The Embassy of Iceland in Madrid was officially opened on 1 December 2025.

Ambassador Kristján Andri Stefánsson presented his credentials to Felibe IV, King of Spain on 12 September 2025. He is the first Icelandic ambassador to be based in Madrid, the capital of Spain, and serves the jurisdiction from there.

In 1949, Pétur Benediktsson was appointed the first Icelandic ambassador accredited to Spain. However, he was based in Paris, France. The first Icelandic consulates in Spain opened in Barcelona and Seville in 1950.

The Embassy's duties are based on the political, economical and cultural exchange between Iceland and the other countries. Consular functions and the response to common inquiries about Iceland also belong to the daily duties.
